Pride in Dallas · Since 1972

A 100% volunteer-based Pride, rooted in Oak Lawn.

Pride in Dallas is a grassroots 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to celebrating, preserving, and protecting LGBTQ+ community and history in Dallas. We don't have a corporate office or a paid CEO, we have neighbors who take PTO in September, bartenders who work the route between shifts, and educators who build programming after hours.

Our Values

01

Inspire

We tell the stories of LGBTQ+ Dallas, loudly, honestly, and without asking permission, so the next generation knows this community has always been here.

02

Educate

We preserve and share our community's history, because a movement that forgets where it came from is a movement that can be erased.

03

Commemorate

We honor the elders, the activists, and the neighbors we've lost, especially the ones whose names never made it into official histories.

04

Celebrate

We throw the best damn parade in North Texas. Joy is resistance too, and Cedar Springs is still the heart of it.

A Living History

  1. 1972

    The first march

A small group of neighbors organized the first public LGBTQ+ demonstration in Dallas, loud, nervous, and refusing to be quiet.

  2. 1980s

    Oak Lawn becomes the Strip

Cedar Springs Road becomes the heart of queer Dallas. Bars, bookstores, bathhouses, and community centers take root along the Strip.

  3. 1990s

    Fighting the epidemic

The community loses friends, lovers, and leaders to HIV/AIDS. Pride becomes a memorial as much as a celebration, a promise to never forget.

  4. 2003

    Lawrence v. Texas

A Dallas-area case decriminalizes same-sex intimacy nationwide. Pride in Dallas mobilizes its largest march in a decade.

  5. 2020

    Pride moves downtown

COVID and permitting issues push the parade off Cedar Springs for the first time in a generation. Neighbors keep asking: when are you coming home?

  6. 2026

    Back to the Strip

Pride returns to Cedar Springs. Not as nostalgia, as a promise to the community that built this ground.
